Milestones in the development of RTC-ELECTRO
RTC-ELECTRO
To mark the 20th anniversary of RTC-ELECTRO (part of the NEC Group), we look back at the key stages of its formation and growth. The company’s history will be presented in five‑year cycles.
Today, we focus on the first development phase – from 2006 to 2011. During this period, the company evolved from a representative of foreign electrical equipment manufacturers in Russia to a manufacturer of busbars and conductors.
2006. This was the year the company was founded as a supplier of foreign busbars to the Russian market. RTC-ELECTRO gained practical insight into the industry: it formed a clear understanding of customer needs and studied how equipment performed under Russian operating conditions. That same year, RTC-ELECTRO took part in major industry exhibitions for the first time – «ELECTRO» and «Electrical Networks» in Moscow, as well as «Energy and Electrical Engineering» in Saint Petersburg. This allowed the company to showcase its potential, establish its presence in the market and begin building an effective operational framework.
2007-2008. The company actively promoted cast resin‑insulated busbars and compact busbar trunking systems. Since these were new solutions for the Russian power industry, the market response was mixed: there was strong interest, but specialists also had questions about whether the products could reliably operate in Russian conditions. However, the first deliveries to Rosseti and RusHydro facilities demonstrated the huge potential of compact busbars and conductors with cast/solid insulation for use at sites across the Russian Federation. To support long‑term growth, the company established an in‑house design bureau responsible for busbar engineering.
2009. RTC-ELECTRO took a decisive step towards technological independence by launching its own production of phase‑isolated busbars (TPL). This move enabled the company to offer a product tailored to Russian conditions. Quality control at every stage – from raw materials to final testing – established RTC-ELECTRO’s reputation as a reliable manufacturer and set the direction for its future development.
2009. In the same year, Igor Viktorovich Cherenkov took over as General Director. Over the next 17 years, under his leadership, the company grew significantly and underwent many changes, while maintaining its core values and principles.
2010. RTC-ELECTRO made its first deliveries of TPL busbars to Substation No. 1 in Petrozavodsk, Volkhov‑Severnaya in Saint Petersburg and Vichuga in the Ivanovo Region. All technical requirements were strictly observed during the projects: each busbar component underwent thorough testing in the company’s own electrical laboratory. The busbars successfully passed operational tests and continue to operate at these sites to this day, confirming the reliability of the technical solutions implemented at the production development stage. Positive feedback from customers served as both recognition and motivation for the company’s further growth.
2011. Thanks to accumulated experience and streamlined processes, the company reached new production volumes: it manufactured 5 kilometres of TPL busbars. This result clearly demonstrated that RTC-ELECTRO had not only secured its position in the market but had also become a full‑fledged player with its own production capabilities and engineering expertise.
In just five years, the company progressed from being a product distributor to a manufacturer of power equipment. Soon, we will share the second five‑year chapter in RTC-ELECTRO’s story (2011-2016). During this period, the company continued its dynamic development: it adopted new technologies, undertook large‑scale projects, set records and expanded into international markets.
