NTZMK (part of the NEC Group) is completing a large‑scale energy project in Kazakhstan. The plant has already delivered over 3,000 tonnes of metal structures to the construction site, out of the planned volume.
For the construction of key facilities at the combined heat and power plant, the enterprise manufactured lattice and solid‑wall columns for the main framework, as well as components for the flue gas stacks. The structures for Almaty CHP‑3 were shipped only after control assemblies, ensuring that each finished item precisely matched the design configuration. In one of the workshop spans, specialists assembled complex sections of the bypass flue gas stack.
The modernisation of CHP‑3, which was built back in 1962, is driven by the critical wear of the existing equipment and the insufficient efficiency of the current capacity. The project aims to create a power facility with enhanced output and operational flexibility.
The new CHP‑3 will operate on a combined cycle, generating both electrical and thermal energy. A key technological solution will be replacing the outdated pulverised coal equipment with modern combined‑cycle gas turbine units with a capacity of up to 450 MW, running on natural gas. Fully converting the plant from coal to gas will significantly improve the environmental performance of the facility and minimise its impact on the region’s environment. The commissioning of the new CHP‑3 is scheduled for 2026.
