NTZMK (part of the NEC Group) is manufacturing metal structures for the buildings of two new power units at the Kharanorskaya GRES (JSC Inter RAO). The plant will ship more than 15 000 tonnes of metal structures coated with a special fire‑retardant compound.
This technological treatment helps reduce the duration of construction and installation works and ensures the required fire resistance limit for the building frame. During a fire, high temperatures make steel ductile, causing it to lose strength.
The high‑tech thermally expanding fire‑retardant materials used at NTZMK increase the time during which the structures retain their load‑bearing capacity in emergency conditions. When heated, the coating expands in volume, forming a protective layer that prevents the metal fr om deforming – thereby significantly increasing the fire resistance lim it of the structures.
An additional layer of special enamel provides extra reliability and an improved aesthetic appearance to the metal structures. Specialists monitor compliance with the technological process at every stage – from surface preparation to acceptance of the finished product.
