Offers of «NEC.TECH» in the basic model of information security threats in intelligent electricity metering systems of the Ministry of Energy will significantly reduce the costs of energy companies and consumer citizens
Amendments to the basic information security threat model for smart electricity metering systems of the Ministry of Energy have been completed.
The relevant document has been signed by the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Sergey Shvetsov, and will soon be published on the Ministry's website: https://minenergo.gov.ru/.
In addition to representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, employees of the unified scientific and technical center, «NEC.TECH» LLC (part of the «NEC» JSC industrial group of companies), actively participated in the work of the working group on developing amendments to the basic model.
The compensating measures for the three-level electricity system, developed by «NEC.TECH» LLC and implemented for individual electricity meters (IEMs) manufactured by the Russian enterprise, «NARTIS Plant» LLC, formed the basis for important changes.
The demonstration of the functionality and protection mechanisms of the smart metering system (SMS) developed by «NEC.TECH» eliminates the need to integrate cryptographic protection tools (CPTs) into electricity meters and avoids significant additional costs for energy companies.
«According to preliminary estimates, this solution will allow energy sales companies alone to reduce costs by more than 14 billion rubles, while ensuring the required level of security for electricity metering systems. Importantly, the implementation of this technical solution will not affect citizens – residential consumers of electricity – due to its low cost», commented Dmitry Zaretsky, General Director of «NEC.TECH» LLC.
Thanks to the joint work of all participants in the working group, the updated threat model allows for comprehensive protection of the SMS in accordance with the requirements of Federal Law No. 187 without the use of CPTs at the level of individual metering devices.
