Unitel Engineering
Unitel Engineering (part of the “Automation and Communication Systems” division of the NEC Group) will supply relay protection and automation equipment for the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant under construction in Egypt. The project is being implemented in cooperation with Atomstroyexport JSC (part of the engineering division of the Rosatom State Corporation).
The company will manufacture and supply a relay protection and automation system, as well as a control and monitoring system for the electrical part of the plant’s power output circuit. The delivery will also include relay protection and automation systems for two power units of the plant. The contract covers the full cycle of work — from equipment design and manufacturing to delivery, supervision of installation, and commissioning.
This is the second stage of Unitel Engineering’s involvement in the El Dabaa NPP construction project. Cooperation on the project began in 2025. The first batch of equipment has already been manufactured and is ready for shipment, and the delivery of the new products will be carried out in accordance with the plant’s construction schedule.
The implementation of the new project stage became possible thanks to the expansion of the company’s production capacities. In 2025, Unitel Engineering commissioned a new workshop in Cheboksary, increasing its production area to 8,000 square metres. This allowed the company to nearly triple the output of cabinet‑type products and significantly increase the volume of projects being implemented simultaneously, including supplies for nuclear power facilities.
Unitel Engineering already has experience in international nuclear projects. Previously, the company supplied equipment for the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh. Implementing projects of this scale allows the company to develop its competencies in the design and manufacture of electrical equipment for facilities with stringent reliability and safety requirements.
The El Dabaa NPP is Egypt’s first nuclear power plant. The project involves the construction of four generation III+ power units with VVER‑1200 reactors, with a total capacity of 4.8 GW. The commissioning of the first power unit is scheduled for 2028.
